ICON stands for
integrated console
Signal flow of ICON
mic–>pre–>96 I/O (A/D)–>HD Card–>ProTools (PCI card)–>HD Card–>96 I/O–>X MON–>Speakers
Which parts of the ICON can pass signal?
Talkback & Cue
What is the range of channel fader banks that you can have?
2-16
Faders/Encoders are _____ sensitive
touch
How is the ICON connected to the computer and where is it configured in protools?
Connected to the computer through Ethernet and configured in the peripherals menu of protools
The console does NOT come with
Does not come with built in preamps…and you have to buy HD cards and Interfaces and computers
What are the 3 components of an ICON?
control surface banks- expands up to 80 faders
DSP processing engine- HD cards
Hardware- interfaces and pre’s
In the center section, the Transport control…
controls the transport window in protools including pre and post roll and scrub wheel options
In the center section, the EQ and Dynamics controls are….
dedicated controls for EQ and Dynamic plugins from any channel. Access these plugins in the center section by selecting (focus) the channel
In the monitor section there are controls for
control room monitoring, headphone/cue mix, talkback/listenback
In the monitor section, the cue inputs got to _______ and the que outputs go to _______
Cue inputs go to interface
Cue outputs go to headphone
DIM level is
so you can have different levels for talk/listenback
When monitoring, the Momentary button
hold down to “momentarily” solo
The Channel Strip Master Section
One side applies to the other automatically. Allows Global control over channel assignments, display options and channel function controls.
Focus Channel Strip
Used to bring a channel to the middle of the console for easy use.
In Select Mode (on the focus strip), you will only be able to
channel select (plus channel selection features)
In focus mode…
any selection (one channel) will focus to center
The Bank Nudge section
nudges faders by 1, 8, or 16. Used for viewing all faders in session with more tracks than the ICON has channels.
The Window Management section
Opens/closes different windows
Session Management
Allows session functions such as save and undo
Soft Keys
Access Drop Down Menus. A wide range of commands directly from the control surface. It also allows access to protools menus and ICON preferences
Flip Mode
any row of encoders to the faders, and anything from faders to encoders.
Flop mode
Whats in an upper (any) row of encoders to the lowest row of encoder CTRL FLIP
What appears when clipping?
A display turns red and the switch flashes to show you where on the console it is clipping, and the “clear clip” switch appears
To enable parameter for automation
Choose Parameter- press enab para then touch parameter or Triad click, then touch encoder.
Knobs are know as
Rotary Encoders. There are 6 per channel
The Select Switch in the Channel Strip section is used for
used for selecting parameters on specific encoders
BMP
stands for Bypass, Mute, Pre. Used for switching individual encoder parameters between bypass (inserts) mute or pre fader sends according to master channel strip BMP assignment
Channel Strip function controls include
controls record arm, input only, channel selection and focus, solo, and mute. Also Displays channel name and automation features
Fader indicator Lights indicate
what automation mode the channel is in. Also shows active group and custom fader assignment. Blue= custom mode Green= active group mode
Modifier keys
Each fader module has a set of 4 switches in it’s lower left corner that duplicate the function of the protools keyboard functions shift, control, option, command
Make Inactive
toggles between active and inactive for tracks, inserts, sends, inputs and outputs by pressing one of the buttons and hitting the bmp button on the encoder you want to be inactive. To make tracks inactive, hit any of the “make inactive” buttons and then hit select on the channel
What can you assign on a channel?
inputs, outputs, sends and inserts to specific channels
master switch for BMP buttons
changes all BMP buttons between mute and pre. This section also allows view of encoder (send) value and assignment
In the global section, how do you cascade?
hold cmd when selecting do to sel/all
In global channel strip mode, you can change…
what is displayed on the encoders on all channels
Custom Faders
Allow you to temporarily set aside faders from rest of console to set custom functions
What kind of fader groups do you have on the iCON?
custom, mix/edit, master, plugin
save/recall up to 12 custom groups
