Root moves 4th or 5th (First Option)
Common Tone: Keep one of the three upper voices the same and move the other two stepwise in the same direction.
Root moves 4th or 5th (Second Option)
Similar Motion: Move all three voices in the same direction. Two will move a third and the other will move a second.
Root moves 3rd
Double Common Tone: Keep two of the upper voices the same and move the other voice stepwise contrary to the bass.
Root moves 2nd
Contrary Motion: Move all three upper voices contrary to the bass. Two will move a second and the other will move a third.
Chord Repetition
Move the three upper voice parts in the same direction to the nearest tones of the chord. One will move a fourth.
Chord Repetition (Second)
Keep on of the upper tones the same. interchange letter names of the other two voice parts. Change from open to close, or close to open spacing.
